Mission Statement

The Melanated Deaf Visual Arts Project (MDVAP) is a community-centered arts initiative dedicated to centering Melanated vision and amplifying Deaf art in Arizona. We uplift and empower Deaf, DeafBlind, DeafDisabled, Hard of Hearing, and Late Deafened (DDBDDHHLD) artists of color through accessible exhibitions, workshops, mentorship, and collaborative storytelling.

MDVAP creates culturally affirming and fully accessible spaces where DDBDDHHLD artists can lead, create, and share their work with dignity and visibility. Through ASL, Protactile communication, and storytelling, we ensure that access is not an afterthought but a foundation.

We exist to build artistic equity, community leadership, and cultural pride, while creating pathways for artists to be compensated, recognized, and sustained in their creative practice. MDVAP is both an arts platform and a movement toward disability justice, representation, and creative liberation.
